Hi, I’m Karla.
The Sovereign Spaces Project is an ongoing exploration of how people shape spaces to build identity and meaning. My work moves between the lenses of narrative, design, education, and research, both as methodology and practice.

I’m a designer and educator who believes that space tells stories. My goal is to nurture that belief through teaching and research. Design can nurture connection, memory, and belonging, and I believe that embracing our individual experiences while uniting as a complex community will allow us to build collective knowledge grounded in spatial responsibility and care. My work asks how we might design systems that respond to the humans left to steward... not consume... this world.
